Whose Life is it Anyway?

by Molly on August 4, 2009

I have a question for you:  Are you living the life that you want?

Now before you snap out an answer I want you to really think about this.  Are you really living the life that you want?

The reason I ask is because it seems that I so frequently interact with people who are not happy in their lives.  Either they hate their jobs or they are stuck in an unhappy marriage.  And yet they fail to take action to make positive changes.  Either they feel stuck in their jobs because it’s the only thing they know how to do or they don’t think they can find another job that pays as much.

People just seem to get stuck in their jobs or their lives and as unhappy as they are, they are comfortable and used to their misery.  I guess it’s understandable.  I mean any kind of change can be scary, right?

But I know there are hundreds of you reading this right now – perhaps even thousands who spend part of your day wishing that your circumstances were different.  Perhaps you wish you made more money.  Or had a different job.  Or a spouse.  Or lived in a different city.

So my question to you today is – whose life are you living?  Your life?  The one that makes you happy?  Or a life for someone else?  A life of expectations and “shoulds?”  Perhaps you entered your profession because your parents really wanted you to.  Or maybe you entered your field because you were good at it even if you didn’t really like it that much.

What’s it going to take for you to take charge of your own life and create one that you love living?  Don’t you deserve to be happy and fulfilled on this short journey on Planet Earth?  What people or obstacles are holding you back from creating your ideal life?

Perhaps you’re not even sure what it is that would make you happy.  And maybe you’re even a little scared to find out.  That’s understandable.  But please consider taking the time to dig deep into your own self and learn what it is that you want out of life.  There’s nothing sadder than a person who looks back on their life and finds it full of regrets.

So today truly is the first day of the rest of your life.  What are you going to do with it?

Here are a few questions to get you started:
1. What is your personal definition of success?
2. On a scale of 1 to 10 rate your current level of life happiness.
3. What are three things you could do, starting today, that would impact your life in a way that would make you happy?

Now go out there and be a STAR!
